Oxford Insight allows you to configure your assignments, gradebook, and (if Insight is integrated with your LMS/VLE course) grade sync method in a number of different ways, so that you can match your Insight course to the way you structure your course grade.

There are four main considerations when setting up your Insight assignments and gradebook:

  1. What assessments do you wish to assign? Only assessments that are set to Graded in your Oxford Insight course will appear in the Insight gradebook and (if integrated) sync to your LMS gradebook. Any assessments set to Not Graded will not be listed in your gradebook and those scores will not report to your LMS gradebook (if integrated). (Any assessments set to Not Graded are available for student practice use, unless you hide them from student view.)
  2. How do you want to group your assignments? You have the option of creating gradebook Groups to group together sets of assignments. For example, you could create a “Chapter Quizzes” group that contains all of the chapter quizzes. If you create gradebook groups, you then have the option of displaying your gradebook using those groups and of syncing grades (if integrated) to your LMS gradebook using those groups (see below).
  3. How do you want your Insight grades to report to your LMS gradebook? If your Insight course is integrated with your LMS, scores on Graded assessments will automatically sync to your LMS gradebook as soon as students start submitting their attempts. You can leave this default setup as-is if you wish, but there are several advantages to actively selecting an LTI Sync Method, and doing so before your course begins.
Click the LTI Setup button within the LTI Sync Manager to select from the available grade sync methods, including Show Each Activity, Show Each Chapter, and Show Each Custom Rollup (gradebook group). These options allow you to choose how much detail/how many individual scores you will see in your LMS gradebook. Selecting an LTI Sync method before the start of classes will create all of the gradebook columns/assignment items in your LMS course, so that your students can clearly see what will be reported there.
  4. Do you plan to weight certain types of grades in the calculation of the final grade? If you plan to weight certain categories of assignments in the calculation of your final grades, you can use the gradebook features of your LMS to apply weights to the scores from Oxford Insight. Oxford Insight does not include any type of grade weighting feature. Here’s an example of how you can easily set this up: You plan to weight the Insight chapter quizzes as 25% of the final grade. To do this, create a custom gradebook group in Insight for the chapter quizzes. Set your LTI Sync method to Show Custom Roll-ups, and then, in your LMS gradebook, assign the proper weighting (25%) to that Chapter Quizzes grade item.
